Such a beautiful cauli! What happened? Fungal infection after...?

from the fourth photo it seems it started from the connection point (scion/stock). what do you thin?
We found with smaller plants too that they can stay like that for years looking healthy on the skin.
This year the plant had a very good growing season, do not know really what happened...

I think some times when a grafted plant grows a lot it can pinch the graft union and cause that, also sometimes when it grows around the union and pushes down on the stock it lifts the scion and separates the union. Could also be that there was a small infected area in the graft union since it was grafted and that the plant was able to isolate until now but for some reason it got out of control. I really hope you have saved it with the emergency grafting.

update:

the graft was perfect but after few weeks the stock started to turn yellow and it rot...crazy
we had to regraft the plant on ferocactus, will post some photos soon

hello dag! thanks yes we have many tubercles grafted on ferocactus and some on myrtillo, we will see next year if some of them will produce offsets

I believe that taking care of such plants might some troubleful and images show that you have saved them very well and I can learn from here for my backyard plants as well.
