Onzuka Snow
« on: Thursday, 13 December 2012 - 03:06:47 »
Hello all, this Onzuka showed up from seed. It is very soft and wooly to the touch and is covered all over. Even the flower buds are extra wooly.
I've seen seedlings grow like this but then normal Onzuka comes out at around 2-3cm diameter.
Does anyone else have a plant like this?

Thanks everyone I am glad you like this plant. I am going to breed with it, of course, but I don't have any other onzuka's that are really soft and woolly like that. I was hoping someone might have a similar plant because I am also propagating it from cuttings so I might have spares I could send out to forum members to breed with in exchange for some seeds from the cross.

It is 6cm tall and just under 5cm wide, so it isstill quite small and just about to flower fort the first time. It is the regrafted  top of the original plant and I left about 2cm on the old stock  so it would have been more like 8cm tall. I think it will continue to grow like this, at least I hope so!  It seems to have the more columnar myriostigma form.

Is this an onzuka snow?  It was from a mixed cultivar astrophytum seed pack.

Edit: sorry for the photo size. I'll resize them next time.

Edit again: resized photos.
