Tubercle grafting Ariocarpus 'Cauliflower King'
« on: Sunday, 11 December 2011 - 12:28:21 »
A few years ago my Ariocarpus 'Cauliflower King' from Thailand began to rot. I saw it very late and could save only two tubercles.
I grafted them on Ferocactus glaucescens. About one year after grafting, offsets began to grow.

One of them made an offset from the inside of the tubercle:

The other one made offsets at the border the the grafting stock:

Regrafted offset on Ferocactus glaucescens:

Hello Andi, thanks for the nice report!
It's always a challenge to be able to save an expensive plant and reproduce it!
Compliments!

excellent work Andi... I use harrisia jusbertii for ariocarpus .. but I need to throw away a lot the production... this year I have tried to graft ariocarpus tubercles on ferocactus glaucescens... we will see what will be the best result...!!

Years ago I used also Jusbertii, but I have more success with Fero glaucescens.

good luck Sandro! is the plant's apex at the bottom of the photo?
I heard young tubercles i.e. those close to the apex have more chances to make offsets.
But we grafted too another plant (not an ario) like you did and it's doing well.
Another possibility is to graft also the small tubercles singularly.
