Ridge grafting Astrophytum asterias 'SK Star Shape'
« on: Sunday, 11 December 2011 - 12:12:33 »
Last winter I lost this plant, size about 12cm, I could only save some parts of the ridges.

Igrafted the parts of the ridges on Ferocactus glaucescens. After a few months some offsets began to grow.

I could harvest more than 10 offsets, I grafted them on Ferocactus glaucescens. The grafted ridges produce still offsets.

good work, it's always a pleasure to save a plant from dead even if it's bit by bit

Andi this is a super result, we tried the same with this asterias shinshowa:

will reproduce it next year.
I think there are more suitable grafting stocks for this kind of work, for the moment fero glaucescens and harrisia jusbertii work well.
Does anybody have experience with other grafting stocks?

I am sure, ridge grafting also works on other grafting stocks. I also made Ariocarpus tubercle graftings on Jusbertii, they alos build offsets. I usually work with Ferocactus glaucescens, so I don't have lot of experience with other grafting stocks.

ridge grafting of myriostigma fukuryu haku-jo on a big myrtillo.
It's starting to make offsets.
The apex of the plant is on the left (it seems there is a bud over there)
