Ario retusus, many cultivars and many names...
« on: Tuesday, 04 June 2013 - 21:20:36 »
Hello, there are many cultivars of A. retusus and I often see plants similar to each other but with different names. I'd like to, with your help, we try to understand something more. Start with the picture of this plant on the tag had the name "A.retusus cv. Frumdamsus" other similar plants are called by others: cv.frumdasus, cv.royal form, cv.big tubercles or cv.zouge botan. So there are many names? They are all valid, or only one is to be considered correct? I even tried to translate from Japanese the names of various cv. but the result was bad ... What do you think?

Yes we heard too many names too. I heard frumdosus, brevituberosus and magnificus too.
Your plant maybe frumdosus?

My A.ret is called. cv.frumdamsus. I think it is more correct as you say, cv.frumdosus, but there's no one I know who can say certainly :-\ ...

Ok, I think so too. An 'other plant on the advice I want is The A.retusus Cv.maruibo. The basic form should have the rounded tubercles like the first picture. There are other forms with a median line, as in the second photo, which some call cv. maruibo miracle form, and other maruibo only. Another form has a double or triple tubercle, photo number three, which I believe is a cross with a three fingers. Other still has a pronounced roughness of the tubercle, photo number four, maybe due to intersection with cauliflower. What do you think?
