Really great to see all you guys! I just can't get over the magic you work with the plants under such difficult conditions.
Here it is nearly 50C in my greenhouses on warm days, such a contrast to knee deep snow!

Hi Simon,
i don't think, that I have difficult conditions for my plants. In wintertime, when it is very cold, I heat my greenhouse and keep the temperature on 10°C. The greenhouse is isolated. Sure, when you see at the pictures with the greenhouse and a lot of snow, it is strange...

50°C in the greenhous sounds dangerous for me, for me that are difficult conditions, always a risk for burned plants...
But I am sure, you are well organized for your conditions. So I am alos organized for the conditions we have.

We thought too that Andi's conditions were worse than the ones we have here, but each place has its pros and cons...
For example we have foggy and humid days at wintertime, even if temps are not a lot below 0°C for many days like suisse the weather is not dry at all.

Yes,
I think you make a really good point Andi. It is how you alter and improve your conditions that determines your success.
In my case I find plants love the high Summer temps but it is necessary to put shade cloth on for the warmer months(we also have very high UV light in the southern hemisphere) and open up ventilation or else they cook and die. With shade cloth in place I have seen virtually every Astrophytum in my collection flowering like crazy during heatwaves when the temperature in the hot house has exceeded 55C.
I guess that very cold conditions like yours also mean very dry air, which, when heated to 10C would produce cool low humidity conditions perfect for cacti resting in winter.
Low light levels and humid conditions like the fog you mention C+D is probably harder on the plants especially when it comes to growing them clean and mark free.
