Hello!
New to this forum - but not to the astroworld...
Harri from Estonia.
___
I got a nice quite big starshape hanzono last year. The Hylocereus rootstocks sat so deep in the cactus body that I did not dare to regraft it. I did knew that Hylocereus will often not survive winters in my greenhouse - and it ended with what was expected.  :( Thus, I cut my beautiful plant into small pieces (because the core was also rotten and I managed to save only the outer layer).
Luckily, not all was lost as it gave me a reason to try things I'd never tried otherwise. Have a look:

Two grafted heads are from one previous super-kabuto cristate (which turned into several heads) and four are pieces of my perished  starshape hanazono. The rootstock is Cereus jamacaru f. monstruosa.
I also grafted some pieces onto the Harrisia jusberti (several days earlier) and these grafts show already growth - a lot of flowerbuds and some tiny plantlets from areoles as well:

In one hand I lost a magnificient plant - but in the other hand, in the nearest years I'll probably have a lot of them.

hello Harri and welcome here!
Congrats for the good job!
And sometimes lose a big plant but with the chanche of getting many clones in few years is a good deal  ;),
what do you think?

Yeah, that's right. But if to be honest, I'd rather prefer to have a big nice plant AND a lot of clones of it as well!  ;)
