I have tried to develop a red flowering hanazono kabuto.
The photo is a grafted 1st filial one, just 1 year old.

Yes I do.
I grafted 24 seedlings in total.

Hanazono kabuto x red flowering asterias-12
Red flowering asterias x hanazono kabuto-12

I have attached their photo.

Great view Frank.
It seems all of them are soft red flowering, or did you notice a difference between the two cross?
And the hanazono character is carried put most when it is used as mother or father in this case?

many thanks

Flower color: No difference between both crosses
Hanazono character: Only 1 scion shows hanazono character at moment, which is hanazono kabuto x red flowering asterias.
Since hanazono character is normally shown in a mature age, I have to wait a while.
They are still 1 year old.

These are some great results Frank. Beautiful plants.
I tried the same cross, the Red flower was the seed parent because it seems less common for the red trait to breed true. The two parents were my top individuals of each type, the hanazono has strong genes and shows its character from small size. It took a year to have the two in flower at the same time and only produced about a dozen seeds that made around 8 seedlings. The first plant flowered recently with nice colour....now just hoping the Hanazono character comes through aswell. This one is off setting so it can be propagated if it looks good for both traits.

great topic! hanazono trait is not so easy, we tried the same few years ago, need to see if we labelled correctly.
