Has the graft taken?
« on: Sunday, 06 October 2013 - 17:19:58 »
I grafted this astrophytum onto opuntia with no roots weeks ago but i have no idea if the graft has taken. Now that the opuntia is finally rooted but i still don't see any growth of this astrophytum hanazono. Any suggestion?

I think it's ok, it will start to grow when ready, but it looks good.

the brown spots below the scion are not a good sign, but if the scion is yet turgid it could have been successful anyway

The parent hanaozono had been infected by fungus and there's slight evidence that this pup might also be attacked by fungal thus the brown spot. However it's been weeks and the pup on this opuntia is still hard and not soft, still sticking tightly. Though i cannot be sure if its dead and empty on the inside... What's the chance of it surviving?

who knows. give it a try to a surface fungicide or let it dry under a hot lamp for some days to stop outer infection

I don't know, does fungicide affect the pup? Its probably too late for fungicide since its been 3 weeks. I think i might give it a month or 2 to see if there's any growth. Will update it later if its dead or live.

Btw, what are the signs of a failed, dead pup grafted on a stock?
