It's not so common happening, this plant once made a crested flower:

yes i can see better :)
in past i received from a friend, some seeds born from a crested digitostigma flower.
now i have seedling, i hope when they became big, to oblain some plants with crested flower ;)

usualy just the grafted dcm produce crested flowers, that is my one

i think it is not a genetic dependent trait but more an effect of the fraft stock power

Thank you for sharing this pictures!

You can find crested flowers from astrophytum caput medusae in the KuaS 10/2010  from me.

This year I have a crested flower on a astrophytum asterias cv. supercabuto, an old plant (deep graft). It`s one of the first plants in Germany and a few years old.

Look at it:

The first plant is the latest ;)

Never seen a crest flower on the other astros but it seems ACM does it quite often.
