Myrtillocactus Geometrizans Seeds Germination Speed
« on: Thursday, 26 March 2015 - 02:07:30 »
Hi,

I have big enough experience growing popular cactus from seeds; it is my second attempt with Myrtillocactus.  My first attempt: nothing germinated in two weeks; in a mold now.

Second attempt: already 72 hours, nothing germinated from 200. No any fungi/mold yet.

I am wondering: is anything wrong? I bought seeds from eBay and I believe some amateurs supply bad seeds (first one was bought from newbie)

Typically, all other seeds germinate on second-third day; except M. Theresae and Lophophora, still no any luck.

Thanks,

It that possible that my seeds are just dead because of light frost in a Winter? I don't remember but it may be a cause; few hours outside in a post box, at -5 -10 degree Celsium

Cactus seeds will not die in those temperature.
I keep cactus seeds in a fridge.

The freshness of seeds will affect on the germination rate normally.

Ok, I sow about 200 seeds from another supplier (cactus specialist from USA) and about 50 germinated in a week.

Which means that wholesale tomato seed suppliers cannot give you good cactus seeds... all seeds from another supplier from France are dead (moldy); with absolutely the same routine.

Now, the question is what's wrong with Mammillaria Theresae and Lophophora Williamsii...
